Setting Up Photoshop For Color-Accurate Image Viewing
Calibrate your monitor using a quality hardware/software package. (Call us if you need recommendations.)

Create an ICC profile using this calibration. Give the profile a name and a date.

Using the Monitors Control Panel (Mac OS) or the Display Control Panel (PC), designate this profile as your monitor profile.

In Photoshop 5.0 or 5.5 choose>File>Color Settings>RGB Setup: choose an RGB workspace - we recommend Adobe RGB (1998) (in PS 5.0 its called SMPTE 240M). While in RGB Setup, double check that your newly created monitor profile is displayed next to "Monitor:" (if it's not the profile you named and dated previously, you are not set up properly.) Make sure that "Display Using Monitor Compensation" is checked.

In Photoshop 6.0 choose>Edit>Color Settings>Working Spaces >RGB Setup: choose an RGB workspace. We recommend Adobe RGB (1998).

Once you have accomplished the above, Photoshop recognizes your calibration. This means that Photoshop can now accurately show you the colors in your images. You are now ready to begin work in an ICC compliant workflow, and can now "SoftProof" your images on your monitor!

We also recommend these Additional Photoshop Settings for maintaining color accuracy:

In Photoshop 5.0 or 5.5 choose>File>Color Settings>Profile Setup: check Embed Profiles for RGB, CMYK, Grayscale and LAB. Then, under Profile Mismatch, indicate "Ask When Opening" for RGB, CMYK and LAB.

In Photoshop 6.0 choose>Edit>Color Settings>Color Management Policies> select Preserve Embedded Profiles for RGB, CMYK and Gray. Then, under Profile Mismatches, indicate "Ask When Opening" and "Ask When Pasting". Under Missing Profiles, indicate "Ask When Opening".
